reading_habits

Cultivating reading habits in kids has become really important these days. With the growing technology, parents are in a confusion of what to do.

Here are a few key points to help you with it.

Daily Reading Time

Allotting a specific time for reading can take the effort a long way.  This, in turn, develops a habit of reading in the children. After some time the kids will do it on their own. But, at the start, you have to sit with them. This will help a lot to get reading habits in kids.

Create a Reading Space

A proper place for reading is really worth it. This will help the child to concentrate on the book. Helping them to understand the subject in more depth. Although a quiet room with some books & a study table will help.

Reading to Children

At the start, children will not be attentive in reading. So, you have to read some books with them. Let them feel & enjoy the writer’s thoughts. This will help a lot in cultivating reading habits in kids.

Trips to Libraries

Sitting & reading at a library is a beautiful experience. Kids should get to feel that. So take them to libraries. Let them sit down and read something. With them, you can read something too.

Reading Freedom

The children should be able to read whatever they feel like. It’s a big no-no to tell them what to read. This in turn will discourage them from reading. So, it’s a must to develop good reading habits in children.

Make the kids relate

Now reading a lot & not relating to any of it won’t help. Make the children relate to the writer’s thoughts. Show them the thoughts in day to day life. This will make them interested in reading more & living it.

Importance of Education (How to Teach Children)

By | Blog, cbse, education, News & Events, School | No Comments

Teaching the importance of education to the children is really necessary. They should realize the importance of education. We can do that in many ways, the following being the important ones.

Practicals

Practicals are an important part of life. A practical session of any subject can make the importance of the subject clear. So, ask them to use their education in solving day to day problems. Like you can ask them to help you out in calculations, teaching them the importance of mathematics. Similarly, doing small experiments in houses can trigger their interest in science. Also, asking them quizzes on different topics can be of help.

Reading

Reading is a way to gain information from throughout the world. There are millions of books with billions of ideas in them. One can ask children to inculcate the habit of reading. This, in turn, will increase their concentration and understand of the knowledge given in the books. Only asking the child to read something won’t help. We have to first start reading for them then slowly transition them to reading themselves.

Writing

Writing is a way of expression. Children should be practicing it more often. Teach them calligraphy to generate their interest. Once they are interested in the topic ask them to write their thoughts, poems, essays, etc. This will help them process their thoughts better and express it in words.

Travel Better

We can be entertained in malls, theatres, cafes, etc. But, ideally, they are not the best places for the child to visit. Instead of that, you could plan to take the child out for trips to science parks, museums, planetarium, etc., that will generate their interest in their studies.

Empathetic Education: Integral Part of the Top School in Western Odisha

By | Blog, cbse, education, News & Events, School, Sports | No Comments

Empathy is a way of connecting with other people that shows you understand that they’re experiencing something meaningful. Even though you may not understand exactly how it feels for them. In other words, empathy is about finding a way to connect and to be able to say, “I want to understand how this feels to you and let you know that you’re not alone.” Being the top school in western Odisha, we suggest practicing this at your homes too.

Think about yourself at first

It is very difficult to connect with others if you are not very aware of your own behavior. While teacher training is extremely helpful, you may not be aware of some of your own approaches in how you manage your class once you settle in a routine. For example, it is worth noting what triggers certain emotions at work, such as frustration or even anger. Then, it is also useful to recognize feelings of self-doubt, your reactions to stress, and even whether you are going through burnout. Usually, when we do not address these problems, they end up piling up and they might affect our ability to interact with others. Asking for help from peers or a supervisor is a good strategy that will help teachers cope better in the long run.

Let them see you as you

Let yourself be seen. This is way easier said than done. However, in sharing our shortcomings as well as our successes, we are being more authentic. An educator that holds back cannot demand full openness from their students. You can admit when you are not having the best day, or when you got a fact wrong. You can be open about that one time you struggled with a concept in school, or got a bad grade. Students do not need to see perfection, they need someone they can relate to and someone that they can trust.

Show students how to be more empathetic

Many teachers choose their profession after being inspired by an educator themselves — someone that has had a great impact on their life. For example, I will never forget my Math teacher, who had a tough-love approach to teaching, but made time after her normal teaching schedule to tutor students who were struggling, because “everyone deserves a second, third, and fourth chance”. Students will tend to look up to teachers that show more empathy towards them and in turn, show more kindness towards one another and emulate positive behaviors.

Separate behavior from the student

This is nothing innovative, yet we tend to fall into the trap of identifying students according to some behaviors that they exhibit in class. There is a good student and a problem student. The problem with labels (aside from the fact that they belong on jars, not on students) is that students will internalize and identify with the said label. This can in turn become a self-fulfilling prophecy, not to mention that it will also alter your own perceptions and expectations of your students. Other negative aspects are lower confidence in themselves and lower confidence in their academic skills. Instead, one of the building blocks of a good relationship with students is separating what they do vs. who they are as a person.

We at the top school in western Odisha encourage our teachers to be empathetic to the students.

Education Policy 2020

By | Blog, cbse, education, News & Events, School, uncategorized | No Comments

The Education Policy 2020

National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes on the development of the creative potential of a student. We at Aparnaa World School thought to write about it. It will help the students & parents understand what is the new education policy. Furthermore, it will also help them understand how it is going to benefit them.

As we said that the new education policy is aimed at the creative & holistic development of a student. But, how is it going to be done? Let’s discuss the principles and find out.

Recognising the Student’s Talent

The first & foremost thing to understand is every child is different. Also, each one is special in its own way. So, the policy is designed in such a way that if the child is good at art then he will be trained to become an artist. Similarly, if the student is interested in mathematics, then he/she will be trained to be a mathematician.

Focus on Student’s Talent

Our traditional education system doesn’t focus on talent. Talent is to be honed apart from the education they get in average schools. But, now the talent will be the center of the student’s education. Everything the student does or studies will directly or indirectly work on the talent possessed by him/her.

Flexibility to Choose

Our traditional education system was not at all flexible according to the students. But, now this thing has changed. The subjects, streams & other variables will be tailor-made keeping the personality of the student in mind. It helps with the fostering of the child’s unique capabilities.

No Hard Separations between Streams

Sometimes some talents require a combination of different streams. For example, a photographer needs to understand colour as well as optics. Understanding colours is a part of the arts stream whereas optics is a part of science. So, there will be no hard separation between the streams. It aids in the enhancement of the student’s talent.

Emphasis on Conceptual Learning

The emphasis will always be on conceptual understanding. Like a digital artist will not only get to know different colours, but he/she will understand how the colours affect human perception. So, conceptual learning will help the student to be the best in his field.

At Aparnaa World School, the best residential school of Western Odisha, we understand the benefits of the new education policy & it will really benefit the children a lot.

Spirituality & Education

By | Blog, cbse, education, School | No Comments

Our state of being (another way of saying our health) drives all our behaviors, decisions, and relationships. We at the best boarding school thought to shed some light on this topic.

What does “Spiritual” mean?

Definitions of spirituality are many and varied. Its often related to any religion or faith, but the truth is, its related to self. It’s exclusive. It recognizes the interrelatedness of all beings.

Spiritualism and Students

To reach deep inside students, where true learning takes place, the teachers must teach from the self. Students always know when teachers are not. The moment classroom interactions become less authentic, both teachers and students are merely going through the motion of education. Spirituality in Education refers to no-more and no-less than a deep connection between the student, teacher, and subject- a relation so honest, vital, and vibrant that it cannot be less worthy of anything. This kind of nourishment allows the relationship to flourish through all places, be it in the field of politics, medicine, engineering- wherever the students go.

Spirituality as Wholeness

Holistic education is nothing more, or less than making room in the classroom for all relationships, and all layers of relations to the subject. The task of the educator is to lead students to discern this wholeness.

Swami Vivekananda on Spiritualism

The monk who reinstated India as a powerhouse in the Chicago Conference on this very day 126 years ago, Swami Vivekananda always believed in the concept of Spiritual Equality. He stated that every being is entitled to Spiritual wisdom and prognosis of the highest type.

At Aparnaa World School, the best boarding school of western Odisha, located in Jharsuguda, we pay tribute to Swami Vivekananda, marking the 126th anniversary of the historic day when he delivered his speech in Chicago.

The Essence of Education

By | Blog, cbse, education, School, uncategorized | No Comments

Since ages, Education has been an integral part of society and now, with changing times, it too has seen many developments. Long years of research and developments brought many important and significant changes to education. Be it, the National Education Policy of 2020 or efforts taken up many educationists and researchers, one thing is sure that the Schools now must understand the values of emotional well being. The sudden outbreak of news and stories about depression since the last 5 months has led to a very serious issue that has been addressed at the earliest with sensitivity-“What is success really worth?”

As a School, we need to realise that its high time for us to sensitize the topic of a child’s emotional well being.

As it is always said-” A Happy mind can only produce Happy results !”

It is very important for best school in Jharsuguda to focus on the happiness of a child more than his/ her grades. It’s very important for educators to make sure that the child is happy in the process of learning. This will ensure the connection between the educator and the child is intact and very happy. This is where learning is at its best.

Also looking into the current scenario, where children are exposed to too much online content, the role of an educator has changed with times. Gone are those days, when teachers were the ONLY source of learning for students. In the modern era, the availability of too much content online has challenged the relationship between the child and the teacher. In this scenario, the educator is more than just a content provider to the child. He/ She has to ensure that the child is motivated enough to take up the respective subject just by seeing the same love and respect for the subject the concerned teacher teaches.

This is not any rocket science, just a thought which one of the best school in Jharsuguda believes in. At Aparnaa World School, every member of the Aparnaa family believes in understanding the child first even before the learning starts. Tools like “Know Your Child”, activity-based-learning and use of modern tools in education have ensured that there is Happiness all around.

In the end, We put the pen down by quoting one of the best educators of our country, Sir J.Krishnamurthy –

“You go to a School for Learning, but, in the end, what you take away-
is the Experience!”

Happy Learning

Stay Safe
